Phone-Free Camps

Please read my intro letter to camp leadership if you are considering going phone-free. It will help you decide if this is a policy you’re ready to implement.

Phone-Free Family Camps

Family Camps must be phone free like all other children's camps. If gaming, scrolling or escaping is an option, why would children choose to go try something new, hard or scary?  Camp is a special time for adults and children alike to try things out of their comfort zone. Boards need to set the standard and take this decision off the shoulders of camp staff, parents and children.

Click below for the letter to the Board, explaining why this is their decision to make and a sample letter for camps to use to send to parents before they come to Family Camp.

Phone-Free Youth Groups

Start by reading the intro letter, which helps present this idea to your board or leadership team.

Kids Bingo Challenge

You can’t just tell kids to get off their devices and “go play” if screens have been a daily norm. First, you need a clear screen policy - and then, you give them a reason to unplug.

This Bingo challenge is designed to inspire kids to get outside, try new things, and break screen addiction with real-life fun. The first tab is a blank Bingo sheet, the second tab has a list of over 60 suggestions to choose from. Have fun filling out the Bingo card together and negotiating the prizes together!

Important:
If your child has had unrestricted online access, this challenge likely won’t work on its own. You must first set limits and be highly intentional.

Check out my Resource Page for helpful tools and a copy of our House Rules.

This challenge works any time of year - not just summer!

Screen Safety Tips by Age Group

Thanks to smartphones, kids now have access to the entire internet - and the entire internet has access to them. These tips are pulled from expert voices like Dr. Jonathan Haidt, Chris McKenna, Dr. Leonard Sax, Wait Until 8th, and The Glass Between Us.

These age-based suggestions will help:

  • Build strong digital boundaries

  • Foster long-term screen resilience

  • Adapt to your family’s values and faith

I teach my own kids from a Biblical worldview - please feel free to modify the content to suit yours.
